Jersey City Seeks Proposals for Acquisition and Redevelopment of Historic Firehouse
In a recently released request for proposals, The Jersey City Redevelopment Agency is seeking proposals to redevelop a historic firehouse in downtown Jersey City.
Situated at 244 Bay Street in the Harsimus Cove neighborhood, the firehouse is currently vacant and in need of repairs.
The Agency seeks proposals that:
promote the redevelopment, restoration, and rehabilitation of a vacant
deteriorated, historically significant building in the Harsimus Cove Historic Districtrecognize the special significance of this building and neighborhood because of its well-preserved historic character that reflects Jersey City’s past
activate the streetscape and pedestrian realm and create a more pleasant, safe, and economically vibrant area
promote the inclusion of commercial uses within the building in order to diversify the types of commercial uses in the area and promote additional economic vitality.
Specifically, the Agency seeks proposals for the Redevelopment Site which address one or more of the following:
Redevelopment of the existing surface parking area with an economically viable mixed-use commercial building, including the retention of publicly accessible off-street parking within the structure;
Construction of a mixed-use commercial building that will activate the streetscape and pedestrian realm and create a more pleasant, safe and economically vibrant area;
Improvement of sidewalk areas with new pavement, street trees and decorative features to improve pedestrian safety and the aesthetics of the pedestrian environment in this area;
Inclusion of multiple commercial uses within the building in order to diversify the types commercial uses in the area and promote additional economic vitality.
